چکیده
Communicating science with nonexperts (SciComm) is an important scientific practice. SciComm can inform decision making and public policies. Recently, seminal reports have indicated that a practice in which students should engage. Unfortunately, few opportunities to engage SciComm, partially due the absence of framework help instructors facilitate such activities. We present essential elements effective synthesizes previous work describe who, why, what, how effectively communicating nonexperts. applied lesson for undergraduate biology assessed student outcomes. A One-Hour Curriculum to Engage Middle School Students in Robotics and Computer Science Using Cubelets
Robotics has become a standard tool in outreaching to grades K-12 and attracting students to the STEM disciplines. Performing these activities in the class room usually requires substantial time commitment by the teacher and integration into the curriculum requires major effort, which makes spontaneous and short-term engagements difficult. This paper studies using “Cubelets”, a modular robotic ...
متن کاملUsing a Physics Experiment in a Lecture Setting to Engage Biology Students with the Concepts of Poiseuille's Law
Biology students enrolled in a typical undergraduate physiology course encounter Poiseuille's law, a physics equation that describes the properties governing the flow of blood through the circulation. According to the equation, a small change in vessel radius has an exponential effect on resistance, resulting in a larger than expected change in blood flow. To help engage students in this import...

متن کاملUsing Creativity from Art and Engineering to Engage Students in Science
STEAM education, referring to integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, is a contemporary buzzword that is popular in many schools. In particular, many elementary school teachers who have been tasked to incorporate STEM teaching, because of the requirements of the Next Generation Science Standards, attempt to apply the arts in their science curriculum because they feel ...
متن کاملUsing Citizen Science to Engage Introductory Students: From Streams to the Solar System†
We present two examples of citizen science learning activities, with discussion of how these activities align with teaching strategies shown to increase retention of under-represented minorities and improve learning for all students in science. For introductory science students from diverse backgrounds, citizen science provides a unique hands-on opportunity to engage students in the process of ...
